Nigel is a well known Clinical Psychologist who works with, amongst others, sex offenders, murderers and angst ridden teens. “This book is first and foremost about real people, and real events”. His words not mine. Obviously names have been changed, but there are lots of references to murders and events we are familiar with. This is not a light read and there is an insight to what can make the bad men tick. Nigel doesn’t take the softly, softly approach. His up front and honest, political uncorrectness is probably what makes him so successful. He believes all the very bad men ought to stay in prison. Also just because you had a bad and sad upbringing doesn’t mean you necessarily have to offend. Most choose not too. Most make choices to never offend and some even get out and make better lives for themselves. Nigel gives his experiences in all sorts of different areas of his work with a wide range of people. Including his time sitting on the TV series Sensing Murder, and how, as seasoned skeptic, he now feels a little more unsure. The book does give some good hints and tips for keeping yourself and kids safe. He advises what the bad men are looking for which is invaluable information. Although the subject matter is not one to be taken lightly, I did find myself in a strange way enjoying this well written book.
