This picture book is an interesting twist on the more usual
sex education books. The story follows Willy the little sperm
and is in the tradition of Babette Cole's “Mummy Laid An Egg”.
Willy is preparing for the Great Swimming Race. He isn't very
good at sums but he is an excellent swimmer. Willy has to
memorise maps of Mr and Mrs Brown to learn the path he needs
to take to get to the prize first. He claims the prize and
is surprised by what happens. The book has a fun ending. This
would be a great book to begin raising the subject (particularly
appealing to boys), or to answer some of the early questions
in fun and interesting ways. Children and adults will enjoy
this book; it's endearing and fun.
